Online Shoe Success

A couple of weekends ago I met my friend Sheryl at the Ever Green walk for lunch. We only planned to have lunch together, but when she said that she wanted to run into Clarks to look for some comfortable shoes, I thought, "I need some casual black shoes . . . I should go too." So with very little arm twisting, I joined her in her pursuit for a new pair of shoes. I went from mildly wanting a new pair of casual black shoes, to desperately needing them, that day!

So the quest began. I found at least a dozen pair of shoes and boots in Clarks that I loved. Some where crazy motorcycle-looking boots or big furry boots that I really didn’t need. Others were very athletic looking and super comfy hybrid shoes that I also didn't need. All I really needed was something that I can wear with jeans to work and out shopping. Something with a little heel (to wear with my longer jeans) but comfy enough to shop all day or maybe even, if I was really lucky, comfy enough to wear at a trade shoe. Our corporate uniform usually includes black pants and finding comfortable black shoes is never an easy task.

Over two hours later we found ourselves at DSW. By now I have tried on, no joke, 100 pairs of shoes. I tortured the poor sales guy at Clarks by requesting and trying on 8 different pairs of shoes and having none of them fit me right or not hurt me (I’m sorry, but if I'm spending over $60 on shoes, they shouldn't hurt). I knew that DSW would be easier because I can just try them on without the help of a salesperson. And so I did . . . Pair after pair. To this moment, I'm still not sure if I wear an 8 or an 8.5. I'm betting my real size is 8.25 which, of course, doesn't exist. I could not find one pair of shoes that fit and didn't hurt. This, ladies, is worst than bathing suit shopping. I hate shoe shopping.

But now I was obsessed with finding a pair of black shoes. Maybe it was just the sport of it all. I HAD to win this game that I started. So I turned to my faithful friend, the Internet. I knew this was taking a huge leap of faith. If I could try on 100 pairs of shoes and not find any that fit, what were the chances of buying a pair online and not having to return them? Slim at best.

But I took the chance. I bought a pair of black clogs from Famous Footwear. They allowed me to search by size, color, style, heel height. No boxes to rummage through. No sales guy to bug. No pressure to buy. They even had customer reviews and the pair I found got great reviews for comfort and true sizing. Hmmmm, too bad I don't even know my real size. But still I took the chance.

And I am happy to report that the shoes arrived yesterday and they fit perfect. Not only do they fit, but I've been wearing them all day and they ARE extremely comfy. So nice, in fact, that I just went online to buy a pair in brown. Bummer that my size wasn't available, but I'm not going to complain. I'm grateful for the ones that I got.

And I also discovered that they have great sales on Fridays. Check it out: http://search.famousfootwear.com/q-finds/

Happy shoe shopping.
